KONG AND THE MAGIC JUNGLE

Kong and the Magic Jungle is a fun filled early chapter book with black and   white illustrations that is perfect for children from 5 – 10 years of age and can also be a good choice for early and reluctant readers. The story follows the madcap adventures of three children who live in the jungle and their best friend the Magic Gorilla.  

After a very bumpy plane crash, Joyce Olan and Fiona are stranded in the jungle with their Dad. And imagine their surprise when they meet Billy there, a talking parrot who tells them that this is a magic jungle with a Magic Gorilla.  

Joyce and her brother Olan are so excited they set off looking for the Magic Gorilla. On the way they have lots of adventures with a baby gorilla and some missing bananas, a very angry Mama Gorilla and soon they are in trouble with whole lot of other gorillas as well.  

Will the friendly Gorilla with the red hat help the children? And what surprise does he have in store for them? Find out in this adventure story of the Magic Gorilla and his three best friends.

Inspiration for Writing

Kong and the Magic Jungle is the first of a series of Kong books. The series is inspired by the bedtime stories my Father told me, my brother and my sister about a friendly gorilla that helped us when we were in trouble and the many adventures we had with him in the jungle.

I wanted to write something fun and joyful, something that would inspire children’s imagination and introduce them to wild animals in their own setting. This is the way the stories were told to me in the old Irish oral tradition handed down from one generation to the next.

Illustrations

About the Illustrator

Aoife Nunan is an animation student from North Cork. Inspired from a young age by character creation and animation design, she decided to study animation in college. During these studies, she developed a passion for illustrating and character design. This led to a love of strong line art and her work reflects her delight in the creation of exaggerated facial expressions and characters displaying a surrealistic portrayal of emotion.

Aoife was excited by the prospect of working on the illustrations for this book, as it gave her an opportunity to use her skills to create and inflect emotion into colorful jungle characters as well as the human ones. She also had a lot of fun creating the jungle scenes for this book.
